WHITE ROCK, BC — White Rock’s iconic pier is reopening eight months after it was devastated by the pre-Christmas wind storm.

The December 20th storm’s wind gusts of more that 60 miles per hour tore away a 30 yard section of the pier, stranding one person who had to be rescued by helicopter.

The Vancouver Sun reports that repairs were made and the pier will open to visitors to the BC tourist Mecca on Labor Day Weekend.

Government funds, businesses and fundraisers including sales of “Friends of the Pier” t-shirts and beer have paid to fix the damaged section.

White Rock hopes to come up with millions more to upgrade the rest of the pier to withstand future storms.
