BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The name of the former Melvin Brewing located in the fountain district in Bellingham has officially changed.

The brewery’s new owner is local businessman Gary Pickering.

He announced the facility’s name has changed from “Melvin Brewing” to “122 West Brewing Co.”

He told the Bellingham Tap Trail in July that the business will be changing to have a new brand with new beer and food, but he is keeping the same staff on board.

Headquartered in Wyoming, Melvin established a Bellingham location in 2017, but faced significant public backlash after allegations of sexual misconduct against a brewer locally and for making light of sexual assault on its website.

Pickering is working to renew the facility with a brand that he says is not affiliated with Melvin.
