SEATTLE, Wash. — The IRS issued a warning about a new email scam making the rounds.

The email subject line may vary, but the agency says recent examples use the phrase “automatic income tax reminder” or “electronic tax return reminder.”

The message contains a link with an IRS.gov-like website with details about the taxpayer’s refund, electronic return or tax account.

When clicked, they infect computers with malware.

The IRS says they do not send unsolicited emails and they never email taxpayers about the status of refunds.

Those who receive this scam email should delete it immediately.
