BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The Bellingham Police Department says its dispatch is getting an influx of reports about scam calls.

The caller says they’re a county deputy and tell the person they failed to report for jury duty and now owe a fine or risk going to jail.

This is a scam.

Law enforcement does not make contact with people this way and do not demand money over the phone.

You’re urged to disregard the calls or report it to police.
