OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) —Â Washington’s besieged dairies are testing several promising systems for recycling cow manure, turning it into fertilizer and clean water, including a new system from here locally.
State legislators funded the trials to test better manure management.
Lawmakers were particularly intrigued by a 2017 presentation by Sedro-Woolley technology developer Peter Janicki who says with taxpayer support his company and others could eliminate all problems related to manure.
Eric Powell, the business development director for Regenis, a Ferndale company, says no single approach will suit every dairy.
He says “dairies need options” and “aren’t in a place where they can stick their necks out.”
