MOUNT VERNON, Wash. (AP) — A potentially toxic algae that thrives in warm weather was discovered in Skagit County’s Big Lake.
The Skagit Valley Herald reports samples taken August 15th and 20th did not show toxin levels concerning to human and animal health, but Skagit County Public Health said in a statement Friday that conditions can change rapidly.
The county is urging people to avoid contact with the water, keep pets away, and gut and wash fish well before consuming.
