BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A Bellingham teen drowned in Canyon Lake over the weekend after deputies say he and his friend took drugs.
The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office identified the man as 19-year-old Marcus Poulos.
Deputies responded to a report of a possible drowning at Canyon Lake near Deming at about 1 AM Saturday.
The reporting party said he and a friend rode their bikes to the lake to camp overnight and ingested drugs that caused Poulos to exhibit abnormal behavior.
He reportedly ran through thick brush and was heard thrashing around in the lake, then disappeared into the water.
Search and Rescue volunteers could not locate him during searches on Saturday and Sunday, but found his body in the lake Monday about 50 yards off shore.
