OLYMPIA, Wash. — Washington’s elementary schools don’t have enough lunchtime.
According to KOMO News, a recent review involved visits to 31 schools throughout the state and found most didn’t provide the recommended minimum 20 minutes of seated lunchtime.
Half didn’t have recess before the meal, either.
The report stated that both should be scheduled into the school day to increase the likelihood that children will eat more healthy food, which could combat the childhood obesity epidemic and improve classroom performance.
Half of the principals interviewed said facility, staffing and financial constraints stood in their way.
