GUEMES ISLAND, Wash. — Guemes Island residents are asking Skagit County for help with water issues.
The Skagit Valley Herald reports the Guemes Island Planning Advisory Committee asked the County to reduce regulations on using rainwater as a domestic water source, and to enforce existing code that requires pre-approval to dig new wells.
Residents say they face an increasing threat of limited groundwater and seawater intrusion in wells.
The committee is bringing this request as part of the county’s annual Comprehensive Plan amendment process.
They’ll meet with the planning commission Tuesday.
