MARBLEMOUNT, Wash. — The Marblemount mine project has officially been called off.

Kiewit Infrastructure Co. sought to establish a 79-acre rock mine to supply large rocks for jetty stabilization at the mouth of the Columbia River.

The Skagit Valley Herald reports they sent a letter to Skagit County officials to withdraw their permit applications.

Kiewit’s letter does not say why they withdrew their applications and company representatives did not respond to requests for comment.

The project faced significant backlash in early 2019 from residents who were concerned about the project’s proximity to their homes as well as the Skagit River.
