BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A Whatcom Middle School student and his mother are outraged after the boy with special needs was placed in an unused bathroom to use as a quiet workspace.

Danielle Goodwin tells KOMO that her son, Lucas, has autism and an immune disorder and works best in a quiet place.

She says the solution her son’s teacher came up with is unacceptable and Lucas says he was embarrassed.

Danielle says she immediately took Lucas out of the school and he won’t be coming back.

Whatcom Middle School Principal Jeff Coulter sent a message to school parents alerting them to media stories about the incident.

He says an investigation is still underway and any families with questions should contact him.
