SEATTLE, Wash. (AP) — The new head of the FAA tested the Boeing 737 Max in a flight simulator Thursday, but the FAA didn’t say how its updated anti-stall software performed.

That software kicked in before two Max jets crashed, and Boeing needs to fix it before it can get the grounded airplane flying again.

Dickson is a former Air Force fighter pilot who flew earlier versions of the 737 during a long career at Delta Air Lines.

He said the plane handled like a typical 737 during normal simulated flights.

But he didn’t comment on his experience in simulations where the upgraded anti-stall system kicked in and pushed the nose down.
