MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — A hardwood mill in Mount Vernon is set to close down indefinitely, and the company blames the President’s trade war with China.
Northwest Hardwoods, the nation’s largest supplier of hardwoods, is headquartered in Tacoma with multiple mill locations.
Company CEO Nathan Jeppson tells KING-5 he’s already had to close a mill in Virginia and expects more closures if a trade deal isn’t reached soon.
Mill owners nationwide have lobbied congress for financial aid, like farmers have received, but it hasn’t gone through.
If nothing changes, the Mount Vernon mill will close November 8th and about 70 people will lose their jobs.
