BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Recent overdose deaths have prompted Whatcom County health officials to issue an extra care warning to those using illicit drugs.
They say it’s especially important to understand the risk of overdose from fentanyl.
The health department says fentanyl is most often seen in pills and white powders, including counterfeit pills that are made to look like prescription drugs.
They say you should only consume pills that you get directly from a pharmacy or prescriber, not any purchased online.
KOMO reports two 16-year-olds have died in Sammamish over the last few months after taking what they thought were legitimate oxycodone tablets that turned out to be counterfeit drugs laced with fentanyl.
