BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Work is well underway to repair decades-old problems with the Whatcom County Courthouse.

From poorly installed windows to an improperly fitting cap on the building’s parapet – where the roof meets the walls – the Courthouse has been a water-leaking mess for years.

Facilities Project and Operations Manager Rob Ney says the $5 million project will correct mistakes made in the building’s original construction in 1993 and subsequent lack of maintenance.

He says it’s too late to get any money back from the original contractor.

This project should wrap up in November and Ney promises regular maintenance will prevent the need for these types of major repairs in the future.
