BLAINE, Wash. — An alarming amount of Invasive European Green Crabs were found in Drayton Harbor.

The crabs out-compete native species and impact local fisheries, posing a threat to Washington’s economic, environmental, and cultural resources.

The state Department of Fish & Wildlife and the Washington Sea Grant Crab Team trapped 17 green crabs during a two-day period in late September.

According to WSG, that’s the highest number of green crabs trapped in such a short period of time from any one area along Washington’s inland shoreline.
