SEATTLE, Wash. — The sounds of birds singing may become more rare as climate change threatens hundreds of Washington bird species.
That’s the conclusion of a new study by the Audubon Society.
It finds that nearly half of 296 bird species native to our state could struggle as forests shrink, habitats change and the climate warms.
Some could even face localized extinctions by the year 2100.
The nationwide study is based on tens of millions of Audubon records on where species now live and models on what will happen to their environments in coming decades.
