BELLINGHAM, Wash. — It’s Coast Salish Day in Bellingham.
The city established the holiday in 2015 as an alternative to the federal Columbus Day holiday.
Indigenous Peoples Day celebrations are planned at Whatcom Community College, Northwest Indian College and Western Washington University.
And while federal workers have the day off state workers don’t as Washington is one of the 29 states that don’t recognize Columbus Day.
