ANACORTES, Wash. — Eighty volunteers showed up to an ocean shoreline near Anacortes to plant trees to enhance salmon habitat.

The Skagit Valley Herald reports the volunteers Saturday planted 1,400 native Sitka spruce, crabapple and shore pine on a 3-acre strip on March Point on land owned by the Shell Refinery.

The event was hosted by the Skagit Conservation District as part of the second annual Orca Recovery Day.
