MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — A Mount Vernon police officer landed in the hospital after investigating a domestic violence case.

Police responded to an apartment near Edgewater Park on Saturday after a female called 911 to report that she had left as her boyfriend was attempting to light the place on fire.

Upon investigation, officers discovered that the male had not started a fire, but he did threaten the woman with a knife.

Lieutenant Greg Booth says officers tried to speak with the suspect by phone, through the door and by loudspeaker, but he would not communicate until they forced entry.

The suspect fought arrest, sending an injured officer to the Skagit Valley Hospital where they are expected to make a full recovery.
