BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Crews are breaking ground this week on a project to develop the former site of the Aloha Motel on Samish Way.
The first phase of construction consists of 69 rental apartments with a mix of studios, 1-bedrooms and 2-bedroom apartments, as well as some 3-bedroom townhouses.
The Bellingham and Whatcom County Housing Authorities say the new buildings will be ready for move-in in spring 2021 and rents will be affordable to a broad range of incomes.
Construction of two more mixed use buildings is scheduled to begin in fall 2020 with completion scheduled for Spring 2022.
