CONCRETE, Wash. — The state fined the town of Concrete for improperly dumping 50,000 gallons of raw sewage.

According to the Department of Ecology, Concrete bypassed water treatment and discharged the sewage into the ground at a former treatment lagoon in July 2019, resulting in a $6,400 fine.

Concrete was fined more than $12,000 for a similar violation in 2018, which they appealed.

Ecology agreed to settle and suspend half of that penalty, but the agency says Concrete’s latest sewage treatment infraction violated that agreement.
