LYNDEN, Wash. — Those big milk trucks you see on our highways aren’t just clean inside, they’re also pretty environmentally clean.

Lynden based LTI and its Milky Way division have earned their fourth SmartWay Excellence Award from the EPA for being one of the most efficient and lowest pollution-emitting tanker fleets in the nation.

LTI President Jason Jansen credits the company’s use of lightweight, aerodynamic trucks with modern engines and a program that gives incentives to drivers to improve fuel economy.

Jansen says the company consistently wins the award despite hauling some of the heaviest loads in challenging weather and terrain.
