SEATTLE, Wash. — The University of Washington College Republicans are no longer recognized as an official charter of the national group on campus.

The Seattle Times reports the national committee asked the university to take away the group’s registered student organization status, calling the group’s actions “hurtful and inappropriate.”

It says it revoked the club’s charter status in April 2018.

The club’s president says he didn’t know its charter was revoked, and claims the Washington College Republican Federation didn’t follow its own rules.

The university says the UW College Republicans have the option to apply to register under another name.

The club is pursuing legal advice.
