VANCOUVER, B.C. — Researchers are getting an intimate look at orca behavior through underwater and aerial footage.
This August and September, a team at the Marine Mammal Research Unit at the University of British Columbia monitored pods of southern and northern resident killer whales in the Salish Sea and along the BC coast.
A spokesman told KING5 that the footage was captured non-invasively with a drone that flew hundreds of feet above the whales.
Researchers now have 10 hours of footage to look through to study whale behavior and build a comprehensive picture of resident killer whale feeding behavior.
