LYNDEN, Wash. – Interim Lynden Police Chief Michael Knapp has passed away.
The 79-year-old was critically injured when he was hit by a vehicle while crossing a Lynden street Tuesday evening.
He apparently didn’t see a pick-up truck that was traveling without its headlights on as he walked across 4th street near Grover at about 5:30pm.
Knapp was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and the hospital announced Wednesday afternoon that he succumbed to his injuries.
His family is asking for privacy and says the date of his celebration of life is to be determined.
Knapp is a former Ferndale Police Chief who served as Lynden’s interim chief while the city searches for someone to permanently fill the position.
