SEATTLE, Wash. — Plans to build another cruise ship terminal sparked protests at a Seattle cruise industry event Wednesday.
Protesters handed out fliers and held signs berating Carnival — one of three consortiums bidding to develop and manage the new cruise terminal just south of Pioneer Square.
The port commissioner told The Seattle Times the port will mitigate the environmental impact as best it can, noting the extra cruise berth is needed due to increasing demand for Alaska cruises from the already-strained port.
Cruise line executives attending the conference said they hoped to send more ships to Alaska and extend the season.
