BELLINGHAM, Wash. — You’ll see heavy dredging equipment in the Squalicum Waterway near Squalicum Harbor in coming weeks.
The Army Corps of Engineers says dredging of the waterway will begin next Wednesday and continue for about 45 days.
Heavy sedimentation has caused a navigation hazard for commercial vessels.
A California contractor will remove more than 250,000 cubic yards of material that will be taken to open water disposal areas near Anacortes and Everett.
The Corps says the waterway supports 2,000 jobs and millions of dollars of annual revenue for the local economy.
