CHILLIWACK, British Columbia – Rainbow crosswalks are showing up around Chilliwack BC after the city council rejected a request for them.
Two native communities and a number of private property owners have painted the colorful crosswalks on their own properties since the council denied the request in September.
Local advocate Amber Price tells Vancouver’s News 1130 that she expects the city will soon have as many as 16 of them to show support for the LGBTQ community.
She’s even reached out to Guinness World Records to request a new category of Most Rainbow Crosswalks in a City.
She says that could spark a friendly competition among cities around the world.
