BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Bellingham Technical College is letting students get hands-on training for fish transportation with the latest fish conservation equipment.
On November 26, BTC’s Fisheries & Aquaculture Sciences program will train students with fish transport technology from Whooshh Innovations.
Students will get hands-on training working with a mobile fish passage system, which is often used in hatchery settings to transport fish through a near-frictionless, water-misted tube from pond to pond safely and with minimal stress.
In addition to hatchery uses, Whooshh technologies also help fish navigate more easily over obstacles such as dams.
Fish transported via a Whooshh system spend mere seconds being transported, compared to hours or days climbing up a fish ladder.
The public is invited to see training and demonstrations of the system next Tuesday from 11 AM – 1 PM at student operated Whatcom Creek Hatchery in Maritime Heritage Park, along with student tours of BTC’s Perry Center for Fisheries & Aquaculture from 11 AM – 12 noon.
