BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Board of Directors of Bellingham Public Schools won a state excellence award Friday.
According to a release from the school district, the Washington State School Directors’ Association gave Bellingham’s school board the Excellence in Equity award.
The board’s application cited the district’s efforts to reduce costs and increase access for students and families and it highlighted the ways they celebrate equity through special events, field trips and storytelling.
The district believes their efforts to increase opportunities and reduce barriers for students contribute to rising graduation rates, which they say have improved significantly since 2010.
