BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Local leaders are showing their commitment to end homelessness in Whatcom County.
A joint editorial on homelessness written by Bellingham Mayor Kelli Linville, Whatcom County Councilmember Barry Buchanan, and Ferndale City Councilmember Kate Bishop discusses the efforts of the Homeless Strategies Workgroup.
For the last few months, the group has been working to identify winter shelters and add capacity for year-round shelters and they say they are more coordinated in their response this winter than in years past.
Bellingham will have new winter shelters for women and youth and the county Health Department is coordinating severe weather shelters for men, women and families.
The group says that while they have made progress, they still have work to do.
