SEATTLE, Wash. (AP) — Two lawsuits were filed against Seattle Children’s Hospital Monday over aspergillus mold infections.
Attorney Karen Kohler filed a class action suit involving four children, three of whom died.
KOMO reports those children were an infant and 3- and 11- year-old boys who died and a 17-year-old girl who became seriously ill.
The other suit involves a child who developed an infection in his nervous system because of the mold.
The hospital says between 2001 and 2014, seven patients developed infections from the mold and five of them died.
Children’s is in the process of installing new air handling systems in operating rooms and adjacent areas.
