BURLINGTON, Wash. — A Burlington scrap metal and recycling operation has reached a costly settlement with the EPA over violations of the Clean Water Act.
The EPA says Skagit River Steel and Recycling failed to complete a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan, didn’t perform required inspections or monitoring and allowed polluted stormwater to runoff into the Skagit River.
Under the settlement, the company agrees to install a stormwater treatment system at a cost of $1.7-million.
It will also pay a $22,000 fine.
