MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — The Skagit County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved expanding the county’s Board of Health from three to five members.

Public Health Director Jennifer Johnson told the Skagit Valley Herald the responsibilities of her department are evolving to deal with issues such as homelessness and the opioid epidemic, and the board would benefit from having experts in the field participate in policy making.

The Board of Commissioners is looking for volunteers to fill the new seats for a three-year term.

Applicants must have 10 years experience in health care or public health, among other qualifications.
