TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — A Pierce County Sheriff’s Deputy died when his patrol car crashed while he was on his way to back up other officers on an urgent domestic violence call early Saturday.
The Pierce County Sheriff’s office says 25-year-old Deputy Cooper Dyson died while en route to assist two fellow officers who had asked for back up after reporting a young child had been assaulted and there were weapons in the home.
A sheriff’s spokesman says Dyson’s patrol vehicle apparently hydroplaned and crashed into a building.
He’s survived by his 2-year-old child and his pregnant wife.
A legacy fund has been set up for his family.
