BLAINE, Wash. — A woman who committed to paddleboard through 2019 found herself needing rescue in Canadian waters on New Year’s Eve.
Tami Mikkelson of the Blaine Police Department says the paddleboarder launched at the docks by Semiahmoo Resort on December 31st.
She was quickly overpowered by waves and she drifted into Canadian waters where the Bellingham US Coast Guard rescued her.
Though the woman had no wetsuit, dry suit or life jacket, Mikkelson says personnel from North Whatcom Fire and Rescue determined she was okay.
