BELLINGHAM, Wash. — An environmental advocate from Bellingham has been selected as the new representative for the 40th State House District.

Skagit County reported that Alex Ramel was appointed to represent Washington’s 40th Legislative District.

The Whatcom County Council held a joint session with the San Juan County Council and the Skagit Board of County Commissioners Monday afternoon to choose a representative to fill the vacancy left by Jeff Morris, who resigned late last year after representing the district for 22 years.

Ramel is the Extreme Oil Field Director for environmental group Stand.Earth and the former energy and policy director for Bellingham-based Sustainable Connections.
