BLAINE, Wash. — The next phase of construction on the Birch Bay “berm” project is slated to begin next week.

Whatcom County issued an update Thursday on the project that would restore the natural shoreline along Birch Bay Drive, protect the road from storm damage, and support pedestrian safety with a berm running along the beach from Lora Lane to Cedar Avenue.

Work is scheduled from 9 PM to 7 AM between Monday, January 13, and Friday, January 17th.

Crews will be importing and placing berm gravel, plus pipe welding work will occur along the shoulder and in parking areas north of the Bay Breeze restaurant.

Drivers can expect signal lane closures and minor delays.
