BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Community members declared this a new era in Whatcom County as new County Executive Satpal Sidhu was sworn in on Saturday.
Sidhu is an immigrant from India, a member of the local Sikh community and a businessman who’s served as dean of engineering at Bellingham Technical College and one term as a member of the Whatcom County Council.
State Attorney General Bob Ferguson was among speakers at Saturday’s ceremony at Meridian High School.
Tim Ballew of the Lummi Nation said Sidhu’s election shows that “public office is open to everyone.”
