FERNDALE, Wash. — A dog fell and got stuck in the ice-cold Nooksack River in Ferndale Thursday.
Personnel from the Whatcom Humane Society Animal Control Team, the Ferndale Police & Fire Departments, and Whatcom County Fire Department District 7 rushed to the rescue.
Working together, they secured ladders to trees and lowered personnel into the river where they were able to get to the dog, remove him from the freezing water, and carry him up the riverbank to safety.
WHS says the dog’s grateful owner immediately rushed him to a vet to get checked out.
