BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A man and woman were arrested in Bellingham Saturday night after deputies say they found more than 50 pounds of methamphetamine in their truck.

Whatcom County Sheriff’s deputies pulled over 29-year-old Esmeralda Esteban Salgado of Bakersfield, California and 48-year-old Gregorio Nevarez-Meza of Mexico at about 8:30.

Deputies say both gave inconsistent answers when asked about their travels and Salgado indicated she thought they were in Salem, Oregon.

A K-9 alerted deputies to narcotics in the vehicle and a search turned up 25 vacuum-sealed bundles of meth hidden in the spare tire under the truck, worth about $125,000.
