MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — More homeless shelters may be in the works for Skagit County.
The Skagit Valley Herald reports a group of county officials met last week for a private discussion on the need for more shelters.
They agreed the county needs day center and overnight shelter services, but they disagreed as to whether the services should be centrally located or spread around the county.
County Commissioner Lisa Janicki said it makes sense to have services in Mount Vernon where the bulk of the homeless population is.
Other City leaders said transportation issues may make it harder for homeless people in other areas to seek services far away.
