BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Recreational shellfish harvest in Bellingham Bay and Chuckanut Bay is closed.

The Whatcom County Department of Health has announced the closure due to increased diarrhetic shellfish poisoning biotoxin levels in those areas.

The closure affects all species of molluscan shellfish, including oysters, clams, mussels and scallops.

Shellfish sold in restaurants and retail markets have been tested and are safe to eat.
