BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The Bellingham SWAT team was called in to arrest a man suspected of burglarizing a home in the Birchwood neighborhood in the early morning last Monday.

In a call to Bellingham Police, residents of a home in the 3100 block of McLeod Road reported that their home had been broken into while they were out of town.

Lieutenant Claudia Murphy says the residents discovered that the suspect caused hundreds of dollars worth of damage to the home and stole over $7,000 worth of jewelry.

Police determined the suspect’s identity, reviewed his criminal history, and determined that a warrant should be served by the SWAT team because he posed an increased safety risk.

The team arrested 36-year-old William Jefferson on Tuesday and booked him into the Whatcom County Jail.
