Bellingham, WASH. — A Bellingham man allegedly threatened to blow up his house Saturday while guests were inside.

Chief Deputy Kevin Hester tells KGMI Timothy Newman was experiencing mental health issues compounded by narcotic intoxication when he made the threats and turned on all of the natural gas in his home.

Several guests fled the scene and called it in to the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office who responded with the Fire Department and Cascade Natural Gas.

Hester says they were able to shut off the gas and talk Newman out safely.

He was checked at the hospital and then booked into the Whatcom County Jail.
