ANACORTES, Wash. — Last week we reported that the Anacortes to Sidney, BC ferry route could soon be left with just one boat as lawmakers haven’t provided funds for the aging Elwha ferry.
Now, Anacortes Mayor Laurie Gere is pleading with the state to make that funding available.
She tells the Skagit Valley Herald that the international ferry run provides her town with $1.6 million in annual tax revenue and supports 1,400 local jobs.
The city council passed a resolution calling for the 52-year-old Elwha to be repaired.
The Chelan is the only other ferry certified for the international route while the Elwha is idled.
