OLYMPIA, Wash. — Washington is on track to get an official state dinosaur.
The state legislature is considering legislation to designate the Suciasaurus rex, which was discovered in 2012 at Sucia Island State Park in the San Juan Islands, the official state dinosaur.
According to the Burke Museum at the University of Washington, the Suciasaurus is the first and only dinosaur fossil found in Washington state.
It’s a two-legged, meat-eating dinosaur that belongs in the same group as the Velociraptor, T-Rex, and some modern birds.
