BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A Bellingham long-term care facility is facing dozens of cases of confirmed COVID-19.
The Whatcom County Health Department announced 23 residents and six staff members of Shuksan Healthcare Center have tested positive for the coronavirus.
Communicable Disease and Epidemiology Manager Cindy Hollinsworth says the facility has been following the governor’s directives.
The second COVID-19 related death in Whatcom County is also tied to Shuksan.
The health department says an 81-year-old man was discharged from the facility on March 10th, later developed symptoms and died at home.
A positive test result came back on Saturday.
The residents who tested positive are being treated at Shuksan but Whatcom Unified Command says they’re working with the facility to coordinate their care.
