BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The Whatcom County Sheriff’s office has been working to slightly reduce the jail inmate population to better deal with the coronavirus threat.

Chief of Corrections Wendy Jones says they’ve also been working with local law enforcement on some booking restrictions.

She says they’ve been checking everyone who’s booked into the jail for illness and have a couple of cells available where they can isolate any with symptoms.

All on-site visitations have been cancelled due to the governor’s recent order and she’s encouraging family and friends of inmates to write letters to stay in touch.
